Grand Designs RIBA House of the Year Project

Grand Designs RIBA House of the Year Project

The Tree House

At Bee9 Design we take immense pride in bringing innovative and functional furniture designs to life. Recently, we had the privilege of collaborating with Fletcher Crane Architects on a project which was nominated for the prestigious RIBA House of the Year award and was featured on Grand Designs House of the Year. Our team worked closely with the architects to transform their vision into reality, resulting in a collection of bespoke furniture pieces that perfectly complemented the overall design of the house. The house was also featured on Grand Designs House of the year.

The Project and Collaboration

From the architects' initial plans, we understood the importance of harmonizing furniture with the architectural brilliance of the house. Our partnership with Fletcher Crane Architects began by delving into the finer details of the project, ensuring we grasped the essence of their design philosophy. We wanted to create furniture pieces that were not just aesthetically pleasing but also practical and easy to assemble on site.

Bespoke Furniture Pieces

The heart of this project lay in the carefully crafted furniture pieces that adorned various spaces within the house. We worked meticulously to create designs that merged seamlessly with the overall theme while serving their specific purposes.

1. Triple Wardrobe with Attached Desk

The triple wardrobe and attached desk were an exercise in minimal functionality. We were able to maintain the clean lines of the design whilst making them easy to assemble and fit, an imporant part of the process which is never seen once fitted, but never the less a crucial element of the design.

2. Freestanding Kitchen Unit

The freestanding kitchen unit was a standout piece that perfectly embodied the modern aesthetic of the house. Designed to be both practical and visually appealing, the kitchen unit became a focal point in the home. Our use of premium materials, such as Forbo Desktop Lino, not only added to its allure but also ensured its durability for years to come.

3. Media Unit, Bookshelves and Window Seat

The media unit, bookshelves and window seat were designed to maximize functionality and comfort while adding character to the space. These bespoke pieces seamlessly complemented the architectural features of the home.

4. Supplying Ash Veneered Birch Plywood

Our involvement extended beyond the furniture pieces. We also supplied all the Ash veneered birch plywood required for the rest of the house's interior, including the walls and stairs. This ensured a cohesive design throughout the entire space, emphasizing the synergy between architectural elements and bespoke furniture.

Empowering Onsite Contractors

During the collaboration, we provided oversize fillers along with detailed instructions, empowering the onsite contractors to fit the furniture pieces precisely to the available space. This attention to detail not only streamlined the installation process but also ensured a perfect fit, enhancing the overall user experience.

The Future

This project has reinforced our commitment to crafting bespoke furniture pieces that not only elevate the aesthetic appeal of a place but also enhance its functionality and overall experience. We are excited to embark on new ventures that push the boundaries of creativity and innovation. As we continue to work with visionary architects and clients, we remain committed to delivering exceptional, tailored solutions that stand the test of time.
